CSCI Award List

Each year the Climate Smart Communities Initiative undertakes a competitive grants process to select a new cohort of grantees. An expert review committee scores the applications based on the Initiative’s funding priorities and selection criteria. The awarded project teams are each composed of a local government partner, a community-based organization, and a qualified adaptation practitioner. Grantees receive funding to build their capacity and advance their climate resilience goals as well as access to a robust cohort support program that includes optional professional training, peer-learning opportunities, and technical support over a one-year term.

The CSCI is supported by a four-year cooperative agreement with the NOAA Climate Program Office. In addition, two private philanthropies (so far), The Coca-Cola Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation, have helped the Initiative to grow its impact and promote resilience work that centers nature-based solutions and implementation of resilience projects. In 2026, the CSCI welcomed the NOAA Office of Coastal Management as a contributing partner, which has expanded investments into coastal communities and regions.
